Projects evolve. So do costs. Instead of raising a second purchase order and quietly hoping the two add up, you can now request an amendment on the existing PO with the additional amount and the reason for it. The amendment is routed on the new total – so if the new total pushes the PO past your manager's approval limit, it keeps travelling up the line until it reaches someone who can approve the full amount. Once it's approved, the PO's approved value is updated, and invoices that were blocked for exceeding the old value are re-evaluated against the new one automatically; they just need the usual receipt confirmation. Every amendment stays visible on the purchase order with its amount, reason and approval history.
Nobody should have to bring their laptop to the beach just to keep purchase orders moving. You can now set your period of absence, name a colleague as your delegate, and biosuite takes it from there: purchase orders and amendments routed for approval while you're away land with your delegate instead of you, and they can confirm invoice receipts on your behalf too. Approvals that were already sitting with you before the period started stay with you, so nothing changes hands behind your back. Every action a delegate takes is logged as "on behalf of", so the approval history still tells the full story.
